1Spatial Group has announced that its Sydney, NSW-based office – which is responsible for the Asia Pacific region – has joined the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA).
1Spatial’s first contribution to SIBA has been a supplementary response to the Australian Property Institute’s and SIBA’s joint submission to the ‘Cadastre 2034: Powering Land & Real Property’ consultation process, which has been extended until August 31. The process, initiated by the Australian and New Zealand Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM), will culminate in a comprehensive draft national strategy.
“Joining SIBA is the best way for 1Spatial to contribute to a number of important spatial industry and government initiatives,” said Martin Gregory, General Manager for 1Spatial Asia Pacific. “ICSM’s drafting of a national strategy is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to maximise the return on investment in cadastral map bases showing property boundaries and ownership by improving their fitness for purpose for a broader community of users. We support the joint submission by API and SIBA and greatly appreciate the opportunity to make our own supplementary response.”
1Spatial’s response recommends that future cadastres in Australia and New Zealand:
- Provide a data management framework capable of supporting periodic upgrades incorporating best available data to support the needs of different user communities;
- Be based on a future proof conceptual data model, such as the Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) published as ISO 19152, that supports the integration of historical data with more accurate and richer data forms as they evolve;
- Support dynamic 3D data representing real property legal spaces.
“Cadastre 2034 has kicked off a very important discussion about what future cadastral map bases will look like,” said Gregory. “What 1Spatial would like to contribute is how we get there from where we are now, in particular, how the highest return on investments in historical and ongoing data capture and maintenance can be realised.”
