After a successful event at the Sunshine Coast Brewery the QSSA will be running a free seminar for QSSA members at the craft beer specialist venue ‘The Bench’ in Cleveland.
There will be four speakers presenting between 3pm and 5pm and you can have a ‘crafty one’ while you are educated on the surveying and spatial industry as well as the craft brewing industry!
The 2017 World Congress on Unmanned Systems Engineering offers a chance to network with Unmanned Systems researchers, scientists, business professionals and end-users in a relaxing atmosphere. The Congress will attract visitors from all around the world representing excellent opportunities to showcase innovations in drone technology.
The 2017 WUEng promotes the advancement of the applied science, technology and operation of unmanned systems through the dissemination of cutting-edge research. This year’s ACS NSW Annual State Conference will be held at NSW Parliament House on Wednesday 2 August. The line-up of high-profile speakers will cover important business topics and plans for NSW.

The next GeoRabble Sydney will be on Thursday 10th August, and we want to hear your thoughts on the future of technology as it relates to our industry.
What will be the impact of low-cost drones, or the Internet of Things, or blockchain?
We’re looking for speakers who can deliver an interesting presentation about the future of “geo”, following the simple GeoRabble structure:
- Celebrate each others’ triumphs
- Respect each others’ choice – no technology bigotry
- No sales pitches – this includes services, software, data etc.
- No company logos or ‘about us’ slides
- Keep it short – 10 minutes per talk

The annual FOSS4G conference is the largest global gathering focused on open source geospatial software. FOSS4G brings together developers, users, decision-makers and observers from a broad spectrum of organizations and fields of operation. Through six days of workshops, presentations, discussions, and cooperation, FOSS4G participants create effective and relevant geospatial products, standards, and protocols.
FOSS4G has been held all over the world and draws attendees from over 40 countries. Bonn, Germany hosted the conference in 2016. In 2017, Boston, Massachusetts, USA will host.
The event’s host, the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, was founded to support and build the highest-quality open source geospatial software. The foundation’s goal is to encourage the use and collaborative development of community-led projects, data development and education. Many projects live under the OSGeo umbrella.
“The June 2016 Coastal Storm – the event, damage, response and lessons”
The June 2016 Coastal Storm as a media sensation with dramatic images of damage across NSW. However, it wasnt the largest storm seen in NSW, now was damage entirely unexpected.
Recent advances in ocean, beach and structure monitoring together with an abundance of imagery and videography provides an unprecendented opportunity to learn from the effects of this storm.
This seminar will review the storm conditions, the damage observed across NSW, and the emergency response as it happened. A panel discussion will explore what can be learnt from this event to make our coastal communities safer, maritime infrastructure more resilient, and how to achieve these within conflicting stakeholder expectations.
After a superb feedback from successful events in Toowoomba and Springfield last year, the QSSA, in conjunction with USQ, will be running a GNSS Control Survey course at the USQ Springfield Campus on the 19th and 20th August.
The course will use the Trimble Business Centre and the USQ computer labs.
The objective of the workshop is to provide graduates with the information and skills to complete components of their registration that may not always be provided in all workplaces. The course will cover theory, field practice and office calculations involved in rapid static GNSS control networks.
