Introducing Position and SpatialSource’s new editor

By on 30 March, 2021

The Intermedia Group is pleased to announce that it has appointed experienced science and technology writer Jonathan Nally to the role of editor of Position magazine and SpatialSource.com.au.

Beginning his career in the aviation industry more than 35 years ago, Nally became a science and technology writer and editor in the late 1980s when he founded Sky & Space, a magazine for astronomy and space exploration enthusiasts.

In the decades since, he has published extensively in the fields of general science, spaceflight, astronomy and military technology. Most recently he was editor in charge of several magazines and websites covering the topics of mission-critical radio communications and private- and public-sector information technology.

Nally says he is looking forward to the opportunity of working in the geospatial field.

“Spatial and surveying capabilities and technologies have never been more important to society,” he said. “With so much change going on in the world — whether that’s population and city growth, climate and environmental change, or the rise of smart cities and the IoT — it is vital that governments, businesses and researchers have the right information at their fingertips.”

“I look forward to keeping the most up-to-date information flowing to the readers of Position and SpatialSource.com.au, and I encourage feedback — please let me know what you would like to see covered more (or less) in the magazine and online,” he added. You can email him at jnally@intermedia.com.au.

Simon Cooper, publisher of Position and SpatialSource.com.au, said that Nally’s breadth of technical knowledge and publishing experience makes him the ideal person to take on the role.

“We’re excited that Jonathan has come aboard as editor,” he said. “The magazine and website have become the leading reference and information source for the surveying and spatial industry. They will be in good hands with Jonathan at the helm.”

“On behalf of the Position and SpatialSource team, and the wider team at The Intermedia Group, I would also like to extend my thanks to Daniel Bishton for his years of service as editor and wish him all the best for the next stage of his career,” added Cooper. “And special thanks, too, to Charles Pauka for standing in as interim editor.”

Position is published six times per year and is the official media partner of the Surveying and Spatial  Sciences Institute (SSSI), while SpatialSource.com.au features regular updates and a free weekly newsletter.
