Perth-based company Scantherma has leveraged Hexagon Geospatial’s recent update of the ERDAS ECW/JP2 SDK for the Android mobile GIS market to update its Mappt app with support for up to 1 Gigabit ECW or JP2 imagery.

Amir Farhand, CEO of Scantherma commented on the release: “Field work has generally meant you have needed to print out large copies of maps to use in the field. Loading geospatial data, let alone large geospatial images, onto mobile devices has been a challenge. So using this information in areas where you have no 3G/4G connection proves that remote digital data management is difficult.”

Mappt allows users to load GIS and imagery data onto tablet devices without the need for any other enterprise software to be installed. The software will pinpoint where you are on top of the loaded imagery, using the GPS within the tablet device even when you have no 3G or 4G communications available. Using location, imagery and your own GIS data you can then ground-truth existing information, capture new data or track your movements, providing organisations with necessary intelligence on their assets in the field.
