The upcoming issue of Position will be a GeoNext special edition, focusing on the emerging location technologies that will make smart cities efficient, accessible and interconnected.

A Q&A with Pitney Bowes Managing Director of Geospatial Industry Solutions, Joe Francica, will expose the surging value of location technologies across a growing number of often unexpected industries.

A case study of the HxGN award winning 3D modelling by Sydney firm Project Surveyors will demonstrate how a traditional surveying  businesses can be transformed ahead of the inevitable onset of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Ingenious researchers from the University of New South Wales last month successfully predicted a second Nepal Earthquake using satellite analysis. Position got the scoop from the school’s research team on how it can prepare cities for disaster before it strikes.

Underpinning these location technologies is the coordinate systems on which location is referenced. Geoscience Australia is seeking to create a next generation Australian datum that will support our new technologies. But how will GDA2020 be applied, in practical terms?
