SIBA has a number of interesting events coming up soon for its members in Queensland and WA.

This week, on the 8th of August, SIBA Queensland will host a breakfast event based on 3D visualisations, including those used to recreate the days of yore in an immersive, virtual environment.

Speakers include:

  • Brett Leavy: General Manager of the National Indigenous Radio Service (NIRS).
    Brett Leavy is an immersive heritage specialist, virtual historian and artist. His innovative idea to re-create the real environment for mapping Indigenous culture and heritage values combines his communicative, creative, organisational, technical and editorial skills into writing, editing and making an engaging and exciting experience. Brett’s artistic skills showcase a proven record of achievement in implementing a variety of websites, enterprise management and specialised applications especially in the field of cultural heritage management.
  • Nat Harrold Ai3D
    Ai3D, a 3D visualisation consultancy, uses the latest games and 3D visualisation technology to convey design intent of large complex infrastructure, master planning, engineering, architecture and landscape architecture projects.

The next in the Queensland SIBA Breakfast Series will be held on the 28 August 2013 with Helen Owens – General Manager, Office of Spatial Policy.

The purpose of the breakfast series is to notify industry of the national approach to managing government spatial information. The intended audience is the spatial information user community including government, industry, research and academic sectors as well as the interested public.  SIBA, with the support of Ms. Helen Owens, are providing a series of industry breakfast events in each state.  The Queensland event will be held on Wednesday, 28th August from 7:00–9:30 am (EST)at The Greek Club, 29 Edmonstone Street, South Brisbane.

SIBA WA is launching the Western Australian Spatial Excellence Awards jointly with SSSI WA at a free event to be held at the Cloisters Building in Perth on the 14th August, 5:30pm.

The event will detail the coming individual awards (run by SSSI) and the Industry Awards, being run by SIBA WA, in line with the national award categories. The event will include a run down on the categories, eligibility, and deadlines, so that you can prepare the best application possible for an award.

The winners of the WASEA will be announced at the WALIS Forum Dinner in November.
