Whereis has launched ‘Locator’, a national address point dataset targeted towards any organisation wanting to accurately search, find and pinpoint a location or spatially enable a database.

Locator, a plug and use system engineered to Australian standards, contains location information for more than 11.5 million addresses, including a total feature count topping 100 million.  The product’s dataset enables government agencies, emergency services, dispatch, logistic and insurance companies to accurately locate the physical position of addresses across Australia.

Locator’s address dataset includes street name and number, suburb, as well as latitude and longitude points, which are all maintained and updated daily by Telstra and Sensis’ own research teams against a variety of internal and external data sources, to provide what Sensis claims is one of the most accurate and up-to-date datasets available in Australia.

“In addition to providing a more accurate address dataset, Locator includes value-add information including UBD map and grid reference data.  It provides more spatially accurate destinations, to better connect people with locations and to equip governments, businesses and communities with unrivalled currency, accuracy and maintenance of their datasets,” said Fred Curtis, General Manager Location Navigation at Sensis.

“Locator is ideal for any organisation using GIS data for spatial accuracy or tracking dispatch services to locate, search and find.  The rich data offers detailed, cost effective analysis for business asset and facility management environments,” continued Fred.

“Locator’s horizontal addressing and its coverage within complex address sites is a product characteristic. Locator has a good collection of additional content support providing a key value proposition – the transport access points, UBD references and StreetNet elements and links add real value.

“Locator is a solution, not just a data product.  It is a valuable product within the point addressing marketplace with a host of additional content and value inclusions,” continued Fred.

Locator includes Mesh blocks from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) embedded as a standard component, allowing customers easy comparison with ABS census data. To protect privacy, Locator does not contain sensitive personal information such as names and phone numbers.

Locator is also available in a Locator Basic – a product for businesses that only require geo-coded addresses rather than all the extended benefits available in Locator.
